Refined Living Room and Sunroom: A Full-Service Design Experience

In our Sharon Hill Rd Project, we embarked on a styling journey to revitalize a living room and sunroom with refined curations including personalized furnishings. This full-service design experience not only enhanced the aesthetics of the home but also ensured that each space was warm and welcoming for both family and guests.

Envisioning Soothing Spaces

As a designer who appreciates luxury, my aim was to blend elegance with comfort. I wanted the living room and sunroom to serve as retreats for relaxation and entertaining. My vision included spaces filled with a calm colorway balancing sophistication with functionality, inviting a warm ambiance.

I sought a transitional blend that reflected differing styles within a classic aesthetic. For instance, I sourced pieces with clean lines and wrapped them with timeless patterns or prints. I wanted the overall design to showcase both husband and wife while also making a statement about the lifestyle they aspire to lead.

Minor Architectural Changes

Before we tackled the furniture, we knew a few changes on the existing architecture were in order. Once we defined our color palette, we chose new colors for both the walls & ceiling to relocate the color & generate a strong unexpected moment. We also softened the fireplace stone by applying a gentle white wash application. We then stained the mantle to better coordinate with the existing built-ins and kitchen hood surround.

Curating Intentional Furniture Selections

With a well-defined vision in mind, the next step was the selection of refined furniture to anchor both spaces while blending warm & cool elements. In the living room, we chose a transitional sofa upholstered in a heavy duty crypton fabric, which anchored the seating area in the open floorplan from the kitchen.

We carefully selected an array of luxurious throw pillows in various textures and complimentary colors to create visual interest. Accompanying the sofa is a circular coffee table & two feminine swivel chairs. The gentle curves in these pieces offset the hard lines on the sofa. A plush wool rug, rich in texture and classic pattern, was added to anchor the space and provide comfort underfoot. These pairings not only enhanced the aesthetic but also ensured a cozy atmosphere for gatherings.

In the sunroom, we embraced a cozy airy vibe by selecting low profile pieces complimentary of the husband's modern style. For a splash of color, we wrapped an L-shaped chaise with a cozy denim fabric paired with a natural stained base frame. Modern accent chairs with cushy cushions offered the ideal mix of comfort and interest. To maximize the room's natural light, we chose light filtering roller shades in a shade of white which gently disappear allowing these homeowners enjoy their beautiful view.

Purposeful Styling

Styling played a key role in this transformation entailing a narrative of comfort and elegance. The nuance of effectively layering decor accessories ensures each piece accentuates the room's overall feel. We blended old & new pieces further showcasing our client's story.

For the living room, we created a gallery wall featuring existing wall art, a personal touch in the space. Thoughtful decor accessories, such as refined vases and carefully chosen coffee table books, added personality while keeping the area clear of clutter.

In the sunroom, we focused on integrating natural elements. By adding strategically placed potted plants, we not only enhanced the visual appeal but also improved air quality, vital for a healthy living environment. Fresh greenery adorned organic vases, making the room feel lively and inviting and mirroring the beauty of the outdoors.

Focusing on Lighting

An essential aspect of successful design is lighting. In this project, we combined ambient and accent lighting to create a layered scheme adaptable to different moods and occasions.

In the living room, a stunning chandelier emerged as a focal point while casting a soft, inviting glow against the now beautiful saturated ceiling color. Positioning oversized buffet lamps on the console table enhanced the cozy atmosphere for evening relaxation.

In the sunroom, sleek recessed cans compliment the abundant natural light. As the sun sets, these lights accompanied with dimmer switches turn the sunroom into a cozy retreat, ideal for unwinding after a busy day.
